A Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary by qualification, he was formerly with the Investment Banking Division of The Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Ltd. (ICICI) re-emerging as ICICI Bank, the pioneering financial institution and has an experience of over twenty years in the financial services (including venture capital, project finance and corporate finance) and investment banking (including capital markets and securities broking).

He was involved while at ICICI in the formation of CRISIL, India's first Credit Rating Agency and TDICI (Technology Development and Investment Company of India Ltd.) the first technology finance and venture capitalist of India.



  • He was also closely involved in the formation of Association of Merchant Bankers of India (AMBI), the only self-regulatory arm of the merchant of banking (equivalent of investment banking) community of India, duly recognized by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the Indian equivalent of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

  • He had the honor of serving the Board of AMBI right from inception. He also had the privilege of serving as the Vice-Chairman of the Board, which comprised eminent personalities such as Mr. Nimesh Kampani (Chairman, JM Morgan Stanley), Mr. Shitin Desai (Vice Chairman, DSP Merryll Lynch), Mr. N. J. Jhaveri (former CMD of ICICI Securities), Mr. K. A. Chaukar (former MD, ICICI Securities and presently MD of Tata Industries Ltd), Mr. A. R. Barwe (former MD, SBI Capital), Mr. P. V. Narasimham (former ED of IDBI and Chairman of IFCI) as its members.

  • He is guest faculty at various educational institutions and professional fora and is a regular contributor to leading management journals and professional magazines.
